Los Angeles-based Solstice Studios has confirmed multiple distribution partners in key territories worldwide on Unhinged, the Russell Crowe-starring thriller.
Territories unveiled include the UK (Altitude); Germany and Austria (Leonine); France (SND); Benelux (The Searchers); Australia and New Zealand (Studiocanal); Scandinavia (Nordisk Film); Italy (Leone Films); Canada (VVS); Latin America (Sun Distribution); Spain (DeAPlaneta); Middle East (Eagle Films); Japan (Kadokawa); South Korea and Vietnam (Noori); the Baltics and CIS (Volgafilm); Switzerland (Ascot Elite); and Poland (Monolith).
Deals have also been secured for Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania (Vertical Distribution); former Yugoslavia (Blitz); Taiwan (Movie Cloud); Indonesia (PT Prima); South Africa (Empire); India (VR Films & Studios Ltd); Israel (United King Films); Greece and Turkey (Tanweer); Portugal (Pris); Malaysia (Metropolis Television Inc); Hong Kong (Edko Films); Thailand (Sahamongkol); the Philippines (Pioneer); Iceland (Sam Film); the West Indies (Pasatiempo Pictures); and Singapore (MM2).
UK distributor Altitude has set a July 17 date for the film, which follows the US release by a week. It is one of several distributors planning to follow the example of Solstice in playing the film soon after cinemas reopen in their respective territories. Other companies planning releases as soon as possible include Germany’s Leonine and Scandinavia’s Nordisk Film.
“This film enables us to present the audience with a great cinematic experience after a long stretch of hardship,” said Leonine CEO Fred Kogel. “At the same time, we are supporting the exhibitors with such a high-profile release to be able to reopen their theatres as profitable as possible. It takes courage to be the first mover into a new normality and I believe this signal is important for the people and our industry.”
Earlier this month Solstice moved Unhinged to July 10. It is one of the first new releases since cinemas worldwide were closed following the coronavirus pandemic.
Unhinged stars Crowe as a man who unleashes road rage after a mother leans on her horn by accident. Derrick Borte directed from a screenplay by Carl Ellsworth. Caren Pistorius, Gabriel Bateman, Jimmi Simpson and Austin P McKenzie also star.
