UK actor Tim Curry, famed for playing scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, has died aged 80.
According to US reports, he died at his home in Los Angeles.
He initially starred in the London’s Royal Court Theatre stage production of the camp musical, ahead of moving to Broadway with the production before appearing opposite Susan Sarandon in the low-budget 1975 film adaption, which would go on to become a cult classic.
He continued his stage career, alongside screen credits spanning Ridley Scott’s 1985 film Legend, 1990 TV miniseries It, based on the Stephen King novel, and comedic roles in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Muppet Treasure Island and Scary Movie 2, as well as voice over performances in animations including Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties.
Curry was born in Cheshire, England, in 1946, beginning his acting career in a 1968 West End production of Hair, where he met Richard O’Brien, creator of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
A cause of death has not yet been confirmed, but Curry had several health issues after suffering a major stroke in 2012.
