‘Erupcja’

The world premieres of Saudi filmmaker Haifaa Al Mansour’s crime mystery UnidentifiedErupcja starring Charli XCXand Canadian DJ Kid Koala’s animation Space Cadet join picks from Cannes, Venice and Berlin in the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Centrepiece programme.

The selection of world cinema includes 19 world premieres, including Jan Komasa’s kidnap drama Good Boy starring Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough; Kirk Jones’s Tourette’s biopic I Swear about trailblazer John Davidson starring Robert Aramayo and Peter Mullan, which Studiocanal will distribute in the UK and Bankside Films handles for world sales; Jitank Singh Gurjar’s Indian family drama In Search Of The Sky; and Canadian Gail Maurice’s Indigenous drama Blood Lines.

A large Cannes contingent brings Sergei Loznitsa’s Francois Chalais Prize winner Two Prosecutors and Tarik Saleh’s Eagles Of The Republic, both from Competition; Genki Kawamura’s Cannes Midnight selection Exit 8; Christian Petzold’s Mirrors No.3 from Directors’ Fortnight; Diego Céspedes’ Un Certain Regard winner The Mysterious Gaze Of The Flamingo; and Critics Week grand prix winner A Useful Ghost from Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke and Left-Handed Girl from Shih-Ching Tsou, among others.

From Venice, there is an international premiere for Duse by Pietro Marcello, as well as North American premieres for Lazlo Nemes’s Orphan; STILLZ’s Venice Horizons entry Barrio Triste; and Anders Thomas Jensen’s The Last Viking, which plays out of competition on the Lido.

Richard Linklater’s Blue Moon originally premiered in Berlin, as did Honey Bunch from Madeleine Sims-Fewer and Dusty Mancinelli.

Centrepiece is programmed by Jason Anderson, Kelly Boutsalis, Diana Cadavid, Robyn Citizen, Claire Diao, Giovanna Fulvi, June Kim, Dorota Lech, Anita Lee, Peter Kuplowsky, Andréa Picard, and Jason Ryle.
