EXCLUSIVE: Singaporean production company Hazelnut Media is set to launch Legendia Film Festival, a touring event for repertory cinema.
With a first edition pencilled in for next August, the festival is planned to take place in a range of cities in different countries, screening restored copies of classic films. It will also host conversations and mentorship programmes.
Hazelnut is at the Souk, holding discussions with studios and rights holders, ahead of the first edition of the festival. It is looking to appoint a festival director in the coming months.
“Legendia is needed now because audiences seek not only entertainment but resonance,” said Olivier Dock, Hazelnut Media co-CEO.
Dock runs Hazelnut with company founder and co-CEO Isabella Sreyashii Sen, who said she hoped the festival would be “a space where cinema becomes ritual and reflection”.
The company co-produced Priyankar Patra’s romantic drama Early Days, which has its world premiere in the New Visions strand of Red Sea on Wednesday (December 10). The film follows the beginnings of a relationship between a couple in their mid-twenties in Mumbai, as they share their love story via social media and are propelled into the world of influencers.
