Universal Pictures International will release Alex Gibney’s four-hour documentary Musk in the UK on January 15, 2027, followed by a rollout in key territories.
The profile of Elon Musk, the controversial Tesla founder, world’s richest man and former head of Donald Trump’s ill-fated Department of Government Efficiency, will open in Germany on January 21, Spain on February 5, France on February 17, and Australia on February 25.
Additional release dates will be announced in due course. The international rollout follows the documentary’s US theatrical release through Bleecker Street in October. Musk premiered in Venice and went on screen at Toronto, BFI London Film Festival and will play at IDFA (International Documentary Film Festival) this month.
Musk examines the entrepreneur and provocateur’s rise through the Silicon Valley ranks to become one of the most prominent figures of the 21st century. Gibney co-wrote the screenplay with Michael J. Palmer.
Universal recently said it was always committed to the film’s international release, despite comments by Gibney to The New York Times last month when he agreed the company wavered in its plans.
Musk wields considerable political influence in the US, although he has an on-again-off-again relationship with Trump. He reportedly contributed more than $474m to the Republican Party and his America PAC in the run-up to the midterm elections that saw the Democrats regain control of Congress.
