The Venice Film Festival has unveiled the juries for its Horizons and Luigi De Laurentiis award for a debut film.
The Horizons jury will be chaired by French director, actress and screenwriter Valérie Donzelli, whose work includes 2015 Cannes competition title Marguerite & Julien.
It also comprises president of the Criterion Collection and Janus Films Peter Becker; Hong Kong-American director Elizabeth Lo, whose most recent film was Oscar-shortlisted Mistress Dispeller; Mexican director and screenwriter David Pablos, who won Venice’s Horizons Award for On The Road; and David di Donatello award-winning actress Barbara Ronchi.
The ‘Lion of the Future’ Luigi De Laurentiis award for a debut film will be presided over by Italian screenwriter and director Carolina Cavalli (Amanda, The Kidnapping of Arabella), and also includes Bafta-winning My Father’s Shadow filmmaker Akinola Davies Jr.; and American producer and Good Machine founder Ted Hope.
The full Venice lineup will be unveiled on July 23.
The previously announced Golden Lion jury comprises president Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kaouther Ben Hania, Daniel Blumberg, Francesco Casetti, Xavier Giannoli, Shahrbanoo Sadat and Johnnie To.
The 83rd Venice Film Festival will begin on September 2, with the awards handed out at the closing ceremony in the Palazzo del Cinema on September 12.
