Host Wendy Mitchell is joined by Screen’s Americas editor Jeremy Kay and senior US critic Tim Grierson to delve into this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, which launched its inaugural market.

“The issue they have with this market is that up until now it’s always been a rather opportunistic forum,” Kay explained. ”If they have something to sell, they’ll do it; they’ll start talks, with an eye to sort of leading into more conversations at the AFM in November.

”And the question is, how do you package movies? I’m not so sure about the fact that it is only a few months after Cannes, but it’s really more the issue of how do you get the work done during August when people are on vacation?”

Grierson picked out a few highlights from the programme so far including Mike Leigh’s Tender Loving Care  and Jessie Eisenberg’s The Debut.

Then, Screen’s Europe editor Tim Dams talks to critic Jonathan Romney about what to expect from this year’s San Sebastián Film Festival, which runs September 18-26.
