Are You Lonesome Tonight?

Film Movement has acquired North American rights from Wild Bunch International to Wen Shipei’s 2021 Cannes selection Are You Lonesome Tonight?

The story follows a man who believes he has caused a fatal accident and develops an ambiguous relationship with the dead man’s widow, while a police officer investigates the death.

Years later all three people remain tangled in a web of memories and lies, desperately searching for a truth that refuses to be revealed.

Shipei’s feature directorial debut and Camera d’Or nominee played TIFF last year and earned an audience award at San Sebastian. Eddie Peng, Golden Horse winner Sylvia Chang and Wang Yanhui star.

Film Movement plans a theatrical release in the first quarter of 2023 followed by wide release on home entertainment and digital platforms. Company president Michael Rosenberg brokered the deal with Eva Diederix, head of sales at Wild Bunch International.

“I loved the look and feel of this film when I saw it in San Sebastian,” said Rosenberg. “We look forward to bringing it to audiences that enjoyed The Wild Goose Lake and other recent Chinese neo-noir films.”

Film Movement recently acquired Kamila Andini’s Indonesian period drama Before, Now & Then, Hà Lệ Diễm’s Children Of The Mist, The Night Of The 12th, Sweetheart and Return To Dust.
