Host Wendy Mitchell is joined by Screen’s editor-in-chief Matt Mueller and box office and awards editor Charles Gant to discuss this year’s UK & Ireland Stars of Tomorrow cohort and go behind the scenes of the selection process. 

“We are very keen that all of the Stars of Tomorrow, be it filmmakers or actors, have got some film component going on and it’s not just television,” said Gant. “It really is about the work and it’s not about the hype, it’s not about the buzz. We do really dig into the work and, ultimately, you have to be guided by that.”

Then, Screen’s Europe editor Tim Dams talks to Spain correspondent Elisabet Cabeza in San Sebastian as the festival draws to a close. 

”I’ve been coming to San Sebastian for many years and this year one does sense that there is positivity in the air,” noted Cabeza. “I think that’s linked to the fact that there’s reassuring backing from the Spanish government and through the central government but also the regional governments.”

The duo also discussed the buzzy Spanish films at the event, festival director José Luis Rebordinos’ legacy, and highlights from the Creative Investors’ Conference.
