The Zurich Film Festival is to honour In Bruges and The Banshees Of Inisherin writer and director Martin McDonagh for its 22nd edition, which takes place September 24 to October 4.
McDonagh will receive the festival’s A Tribute To … Award during a gala premiere of his latest film, Wild Horse Nine. McDonagh will also take part in a ZFF Masters session for the festival’s audience.
Wild Horse Nine is set shortly before the 1973 Chilean coup and stars John Malkovich, Sam Rockwell and Steve Buscemi as CIA agents wrestling with dark pasts and present conspiracies. The film world premieres at Venice Film Festival earlier in September.
McDonagh’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri screened at the Zurich Film Festival in 2017, as did The Banshees Of Inisherin in 2022. The latter went on to receive nine Academy Award nominations.
Previous recipients of Zurich’s A Tribute To … Award include Noah Baumbach, Edward Berger, Paolo Sorrentino, Wim Wenders, Olivier Assayas, Claire Denis, Michael Haneke, Oliver Stone, Maïwenn, and Luca Guadagnino.
