South Korean sales agent Fine Cut has announced its first deal at the Toronto festival, selling the man-eating boar comedy Chaw to Optimum Releasing for UK.

Noted mostly for its unique humour, the film shows a varied crew of characters hunting down an overgrown boar that starts attacking people in a small town.

Written and directed by Shin Jung-won (To Catch A Virgin Ghost), Chaw clocked up 1.8 million admissions at the South Korean box office.

Optimum’s Danny Perkins and Berenice Fugard said: “We’re delighted to start the market with such a meaty acquisition, and we are looking forward to bringing home the bacon with this one.”

Fine Cut CEO Youngjoo Suh noted she had previously worked with Optimum Releasing on Bong Joon-ho’s creature feature The Host and “as they are particularly strong at marketing and distribution for this film genre, it is a great pleasure to work with them again.”

The film previously sold to German-speaking Europe, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, India and Thailand.
