Robert Zemeckis' animated epic Beowulf is set to get the IMAX treatment. Backed by Paramount, Warner Bros. and Shangri-La Entertainment, the film will be digitally converted to the giant-screen 3D format and distributed through IMAX cinemas internationally within three weeks of the November 16, 2007 conventional release. Paramount will distribute in the US and Canada. Warner has the picture for international.

Featuring the voices of Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich, Robin Wright Penn, Brendan Gleeson, Crispin Glover, Alison Lohman and Angelina Jolie, the 9th century English epic poem was adapted by Neil Gaiman and Roger Avary.

'IMAX 3D has enabled us to tell stories in a whole new way, and we are very excited to offer moviegoers a chance to experience Beowulf in this incredible format,' said Zemeckis in a statment. 'IMAX lends itself to the incredible image detail in Beowulf and in 3D, it will transport the audience directly into the story.'
