Argentinian director Juan Jose Campanella will follow his Oscar-winning thriller The Secret In Their Eyes with a 3D animation film called Futbolin.

The $10m comedy is based on a report written by journalist Roberto Fontanarrosa called Memorias De Un Wing Derecho (Memories Of A Right Wing) about a team of fussball players who break up and then reunite.

Campanella is writing the script with Eduardo Sacheri (co-writer of The Secret In Their Eyes), Axel Kuschevatzky and Gaston Gorali.

The director’s company 100 Bares is producing alongside fellow Argentinian companies Catmandu Entertainment and Plural-Jempsa.

“We plan to make it an international co-production, principally between Spain and Argentina,” Gorali told ScreenDaily. “Filming is set to begin at the end of 2012.”

Meanwhile, Sony Pictures Classics is set to release Campanella’s The Secret In Their Eyes in the US on April 16. The film has already taken $7.4m in Spain through Alta Films.
