A new company Innocent Pictures is to lick Zentropa's porn for women label Pussy Power into commercial shape.

Pussy Power will become a label under Innocent Pictures, which will be 50% owned by Zentropa. Innocent's Nicolas Barbano, a journalist and TV-show host, will act as distributor and creative producer, while local broadcaster TV2000's Claus Sorensen will be managing and financial head.

"I will be looking for partners, develop projects and look for filmmakers with an open mind, but most of all make sure that we produce quality product, we can be proud of," said Barbano.

When maverick Danish production outfit Zentropa launched Pussy Power in 1997, it was with the explicit intention of kicking new life and attitude into the porno-industry by making quality porn for women by female directors. However, it proved hard to deliver and the company folded after just two films, Constance and Pink Prison. Failure was blamed mainly on the difficulty of selling the films through appropriate channels.

"I believe the new films will be a lot more fun, and weird, than the previous Pussy Power-films, which I have already sold to far more distributors than they ever did themselves," said Barbano. "The new films will continue to have strong female characters in the style of the controversial Baise-Moi, and since Innocent Pictures already have new partners in Europe and the US - Zentropa's porno dream has been given the stimulant it needed."
