Quentin Tarantino, riding high following the number one global launch of Inglourious Basterds, will receive the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s fourth annual Kirk Douglas Award For Excellence In Film.

Tarantino will collect the honour from Douglas himself on October 22.

The festival’s executive director Roger Durling said he was “beyond excited” to honour Tarantino, who had “forever changed the direction of American cinema.”

Tarantino’s previous directorial credits include Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill Vol 1 and 2, and Reservoir Dogs.

The 25th Santa Barbara International Film Festival will run from February 4-14, 2010.
