Singapore is to host the fifth International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards on May 22.

The IIFA Awards, which are designed to raise the international profile of Indian film, have previously been held in London, Sun City in South Africa, the Genting Islands in Malaysia and Johannesburg.

Stars from both Indian and international cinema look set to attend this year's event, including Amitabh Bachchan, Mira Nair, Shah Rukh Khan, Shekhar Kapur, Angelina Jolie, Kylie Minogue, Jackie Chan, Bo Derek, Thora Birch and Miranda Richardson.

The Awards will form part of the Singapore IIFA Weekend from May 20 to 22, which will also include the IIFA World Film Premiere, the IIFA Foundation Event and the IIFA Forum.

The IIFA Forum will see a panel of opinion leaders from Indian and Singapore film industries discuss international co-production opportunities.

Speakers will include directors Shekhar Kapur and Karan Johar, and distributors A.K. Doda of IDBI, and Shravan Shroff from Shringar Films.

The IIFA Awards will see 350 members of the film industry, including film stars, directors and music directors, fly into Singapore for the event, which will be held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
