Richard Madden is on his way. Now appearing in Channel 4’s Sirens, a six-part comedy-drama about three paramedics, he is also part of HBO’s Game Of Thrones ensemble and has signed on for the second series from July.

In between, he will squeeze in the role of Captain Weir opposite Eddie Redmayne’s lead in the BBC’s upcoming adaptation of Birdsong. He is only 24 and left the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama mid-way through his course due to work obligations, but he is on every London casting director’s list. “He’s evidently talented and very versatile,” said one. Madden — no relation to director John — also likes to work with rising directors: he took a lead role in fellow Star of Tomorrow Robert McKillop’s short, Strays. “I want to keep doing things where I’m not sure if I’m good enough,” Madden says. “I like to take what’s the most difficult.”
