Quinta Communications-Doha Film Institute production will be screening twice at AFM; StudioCanal handles available territories.

StudioCanal will be acting as sales consultant for Jean-Jacques Annaud’s Black Gold, and will be screening the film twice at next week’s American Film Market.

The Arabian epic had its world premiere at the Doha Tribeca Film Festival earlier this week.

Tarak Ben Ammar’s Quinta Communications produced along with the Doha Film Institute, and Quinta has now brought StudioCanal on board as consultant for sales in the available territories.

Universal has already taken Germany and Spain while Warner Bros is on board for France, UK, Latin America and the Middle East. Quinta Communications’ Eagle Pictures is to handle Italy.

The film stars Tahar Rahim, Freida Pinto, Mark Strong and Antonio Banderas in a story about the rivalry of two emirs set against the backdrop of the 1930s Arab states

Ben Ammar, president of Quinta Communications, said: “StudioCanal are the only European major. I have long believed in a pan-European strategy and StudioCanal has succeeded magnificently in establishing itself as a genuine international player. We are already partners together on many projects in Italy through Eagle Pictures. I believe StudioCanal will be our partner in the future through co-productions and international sales. Having StudioCanal join Warner Bros and Universal as my partners on Black Gold closes the loop and further cements its position as a major motion picture.”
