In the first major deal on Lukas Moodysson's $17 million English language debut Mammoth, Sun Distribution has swooped to take all Latin American rights. The deal was signed at the weekend by Thomas Mai for Trust Films Sales and Diego Halabi for Sun Distribution.

Mammoth begins shooting in Thailand today (Monday). The film stars Latin superstar Gael Garcia Bernal and Michelle Williams. It is produced by Lars Jonsson of MemFis Film and is sold by Trust Film Sales.

Outside Latin America, every other major territory is open

Many buyers are already circling the project. Mai confirmed yesterday that
Trust has received offers from - among others - Japan, Germany, Benelux, Russia, Israel, Turkey and South Korea. However, the Danish sales outfit is in no hurry to close.

'We are extremely fortunate because the film is fully financed through the
European funding system and so therefore we don't have to sell here. We have some asking prices. If somebody meets them, we will close,' Mai commented.

Trust will have the first footage of Mammoth ready for Cannes. The film is expected to be delivered in time for next autumn's major festivals.
