Michel Hazanavicius’ The Artist has picked up the UK regional film critics’ Film of the Year award, continuing its successful awards run.

The film was voted for by staff and freelance arts and entertainment writers, critics and editors in all branches of UK regional media. It follows The Artist’s triumph at the London Critics Circle Awards last week, where it was also named Best Film.

Previous winners of the regional critics’ award include The Social Network (2011), Up (2010) and Slumdog Millionaire (2009).

This year’s vote was launched at the UK Cinema Showcase event on Dec 1, with voting continuing through Jan 20.

Feature-length films from any country of origin were eligible for consideration, provided they had a UK theatrical release between Feb 25 2011 and Feb 17 2012.
