Thorsten Ritter, formerly head of Bavaria Film International, has joined the Munich-based sales company Beta Cinema as executive vice president with responsibility for worldwide acquisitions, sales and marketing.

Ritter had been active in various capacities at Bavaria Film International since 1999 and most recently focused on English-language cinema with such productions as this year’s Berlinale Special title I, Anna and Sandra Nettelbeck’s latest production Mr. Morgan’s Last Love, starring Michael Caine. This will continue to be a focal point of his activity at Beta Cinema.

Commenting on the appointment of Ritter, who had left Bavaria Film International at the end of this January, Beta Cinema’s managing director Dirk Schürhoff said: “We couldn’t have had better luck. Thorsten Ritter brings 13 years of experience from all domains of world sales and has an excellent reputation in the industry. He was thus the perfect candidate for us in our plan to continue expanding the further internationalization of our portfolio, especially in the acquisition of English-language films.”

Ritter’s arrival comes just over three weeks after Andreas Rothbauer announced the decision to exit his post as head of theatrical sales & international acquisitions at Beta Cinema after 12 years at the Munich-based company.
