Korean investment and salescompany The Core Studio has sold North American rights to No Mercy For The Rude to The Weinstein Company.

The deal was initiated afterits market premiere screening at the inaugural Asian Film Market, during thePusan International Film Festival (PIFF) last week.

The film features aprofessional killer with a speech impediment who is working to save up for anoperation to fix it. The killer abides by a personal rule to kill only the rudeand ugly.

Described as a black comedyaction film, Park Chul-hee's feature debut had a domestic release in August toabout 900,000 admissions.

Shin Hakyun, who starred inthe cult hit Save The Green Planet!and last year's hit Welcome To Dongmakgol,plays the mute killer, and Yoon Ji-hye, who starred in Whispering Corridors, plays a mysterious girl with whom the killerfalls in love.

No Mercy For The Rude had its festival premiere at Vancouver where it was chosen as one of the most popular filmsof the festival. The film will also have two market screenings at AFM.

The Core Studio's AFMline-up also includes horror melodrama Mby Lee Myung-se (Duelist, Nowhere To Hide), which won the KodakAward at the recent PPP. Gang Dong-won, whose most recent film Maundy Thursday topped the Korean boxoffice charts, is working with Lee for a second time since Duelist. He is to star with Lee Yeon-hee (A Millionaire's First Love) and Kong Hyo-jin (Volcano High) in the film which starts shooting in November.

Also on The Core Studioslate for AFM is Zig Zag Love, aromantic comedy starring Jae Hee (3-Iron)and up-and-coming star Park Si-yeon (TheFox Family) as a couple who fall in love at first sight but don't want tocheat on their lovers. The film is scheduled for early February local release.
