International sales and film finance house, Intandem Films, is to handle worldwide sales for The Kid , an adaptation of the novel by Kevin Lewis.

Nick Moran (Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels) who made his directorial debut with Telstar, will direct and Tin House Films will produce.

The film tells the true-life story of an abused child who endures abandonment, neglect and life in the criminal underworld but breaks free to create a better life.

Moran described his approach to the film: 'We aim to give an edge to the film that will attract a cool, discerning audience as well as satisfying the extensive fan-base from the book. Kevin's inspirational journey of triumph over adversity will have the audience engaged and moved throughout the film, Moran explained.

The cast includes Rupert Friend (The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas), Ioan Gruffudd (W), Natascha McElhone (The Devil's Own), Liam Cunningham (Hunger).
