Universal has acquired the graphic novel series The Last Call from Oni Press and has hired Evan Spiliotopoulos to adapt the screenplay.

The Last Call was first published in 2007 and centres on two joyriders who have the misfortune to get hit by a train that happens to be an inter-dimensional soul carrier.

Barry Josephson will produce through his Barry Josephson Productions alongside Eric Gitter for Oni Press' producing division Closed On Mondays Entertainment.

Barry Josephson Productions' Alexander Young brought the project to the studio and will co-produce. Universal's director of development Erik Baiers and creative executive Maradith Frenkel will oversee for the studio.

The Last Call is the fourth Oni Press title to be developed at Universal, which is preparing production on Scott Pilgrim with Edgar Wright directing and Michael Cera starring. The two other titles, Leading Man and Resurrection, are in development.

Oni's first property to reach the screen will be Whiteout starring Kate Beckinsale, which Warner Bros plans to release in early 2009.

Oni Press and Spiliotopoulis are represented by UTA.
