London-based WestEnd Films has taken on worldwide sales on Inferno, the story of notorious porn actress and Deep Throat star Linda Lovelace,. Lindsay Lohan is confirmed to star as Lovelace.

Inferno is adapted from Lovelace’s autobiography Ordeal. It tells the story of her abusive relationship with Chuck Traynor, the man who bullied her into becoming a porn actress, and of her eventual escape to become a prominent figure in the anti-porn movement and ardent feminist.

The film is produced by Chris Hanley of Muse Productions (The Killer Inside Me, American Psycho) and Jordan Gertner (The Virgin Suicides) of Hero Entertainment. Matthew Wilder (Your Name Here) is set to direct. The film is due to shoot in the autumn.

“I think of Inferno as really a tragic love story,” Lohan explained. “It’s about a woman who is essentially
trafficked into her own marriage. To me, the truthfulness of it is in the ways in which the characters connect, even in very unhealthy ways, and can’t get away from each other, find themselves interlocked — that element of Linda’s story feels to me very much like real life.”

“Inferno” is the story of the world’s first globally famous porn star. But the movie isn’t really a walk down porno memory lane,” Wilder adds. ‘It’s the intimate story of a marriage that was very, very toxic — and from that story, it becomes a movie about power, need, intimacy, and about fame: how we project our desires and anxieties and rages onto our superstars”.
