David Wnendt’s much-talked about adaptation charts second on debut with almost 240,000 admissions.

Wetlands has recorded a $2.5m (€1.9m) debut in Germany to chart second.

David Wnendt’s much-talked about adaptation of Charlotte Roche’s best-selling novel was released on 268 prints, achieving close to 240,000 admissions.

It also opened in Austria, clocking 22,000 admissions.

Having world premiered at Locarno, Wetlands has sold to Switzerland (Filmcoopi) and Scandinavia (Future Film) while sales agent The Match Factory has started further negotiations with several other territories.

The film, produced by Rommel Film in co-production with ZDF and supported by Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg, FFA, Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, DFFF and BKM, will screen in Toronto.

UPDATE: As of yesterday [Aug 27], Wetlands had accumulated more than 300,000 admissions.
