The actress will receive the 22nd annual Palm Springs International Film Festival’s (PSIFF) Rising Star Award on January 8, 2011..

Jennifer Lawrence’s performance in the film and Debra Granik’s film itself were among the highlights of Sundance at the start of the year when the film premiered.

“Call it a gift for us all when a young performer comes along, demonstrating such natural theatrical instinct,” film festival chairman Harold Matzner said.

“Jennifer Lawrence has delivered an Oscar quality performance in her latest role, in the jarring, critically-acclaimed Winter’s Bone. It is a great honour for the Palm Springs International Film Festival to present Jennifer Lawrence with the 2010 Rising Star Award.”

Past recipients include Jessica Biel, Dakota Fanning, Emile Hirsch, Bryce Dallas Howard, Terrence Howard, Anna Kendrick and Scarlett Johansson.

Lawrence credits include a lead role in Guillermo Arriaga’s directorial debut The Burning Plain opposite Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger. She also appeared in Jason Freeland’s Garden Party opposite Vinessa Shaw as well as roles in Drillbit Taylor and Waverly Hills.

She will next be seen in The Beaver directed by Jodie Foster, Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class, Drake Doremus’ Like Crazy and Mark Tonderai’s House At The End Of The Street.

PSIFF runs from January 6-17.
