Sergei Yershov’s recently renamed Russian distributor VolgaFilm has picked up several leading titles at the AFM.

The company, which launched in 2006 under the name Film Depot, has closed a deal with Lionsgate for its coveted young adult adventure The Hunger Games to be directed by Gary Ross.

Other acquisitions include EuropaCorp’s space prison thriller Lockout starring Guy Pearce and Maggie Grace and Dennis Gansel’s hot German vampire film We Are The Night from Celluloid Dreams.

VolgaFilm also took Pawel Pawlikoski’s supernatural thriller Woman In The Fifth starring Ethan Hawke and Kristin Scott Thomas

In all cases Yershov acquired rights for distribution in Russia and all CIS territories.

VolgaFilm’s first release was Slumdog Millionaire. The Wrestler, A Prophet, Shine A Light and A Single Man quickly followed as Yershov developed the company to serve “discriminating film-goers often underserved by larger distributors.”
