The 28th International Documentary Association Awards are set to take place on Dec 7 at the Directors Guild in Los Angeles.

The five films nominated in IDA’s feature category are: The Central Park Five by Ken Burns, Sarah Burns and David McMahon; The Invisible War by Kirby Dick; Queen Of Versailles (pictured) by Lauren Greenfield; Searching For Sugar Man by Malik Bendjelloul; and Women With Cows by Peter Gerdehag.
 
Short category nominees are: God Is The Bigger Elvis by Rebecca Cammisa; Kings Point by Sari Gilman; Mondays At Racine by Cynthia Wade; Open Heart by Kief Davidson; and Saving Face by Daniel Junge and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
  
Humanitas Documentary Award nominees recognising documentarians whose films “[strive] to unify the human family by exploring cultural differences” are: American Experience: The Amish by David Belton; Bitter Seeds by Micha X Peled; Call Me Kuchu by Katherine Fairfax Wright and Malika Zouhali-Worrall; Harvest Of Empire by Peter Getzel and Eduardo Lopez; and The Virgin, The Copts And Me by Namir Abdel Messeeh.

Five student films are nominated for the David L Wolper Student Documentary Award: The A-Word by Lindsay Ellis; La Camioneta by Mark Kendall; Captive Radio by Lauren Rosenfeld; Julian by Bao Nguyen; and Meanwhile In Mamelodi by Benjamin Kahlmeyer.

“This year’s documentaries have once again shown us the power of the documentary art form.” said IDA executive director Michael Lumpkin. “The record number of submissions we received reflects the cultural relevance of documentary storytelling.”
