Sony Pictures has consolidated its worldwide theatrical distribution activities and promoted Rory Bruer (pictured) to president of worldwide distribution and named Mark Zucker president of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

The move is related to a similar development last year to bring the studio's marketing operations under one roof that was overseen by Sony's chairman of worldwide marketing and distribution Jeff Blake.

Bruer has been with Sony for more than 25 years and has served as president of Sony Pictures Releasing since 2002. He has presided over more than 50 number one launches for the studio and continues to report to Blake.

Zucker reports to Bruer and has served as president of distribution for Sony Pictures Releasing International since 2006 and entered the fold in 1984 as vice president of marketing and distribution administration at TriStar Pictures. He previously worked at MGM/UA and Paramount and was honoured by his peers as international distributor of the year in 2003 and 2008.

'Our sales executives are the best in the industry,' Blake said. 'Rory and Mark have earned the trust and respect of film-makers and exhibitors all over the world and they have helped build Sony Pictures into a first class distribution operation. We couldn't be in better hands as we launch our highly anticipated 2009 slate.'

Upcoming Sony releases include Angels & Demons starring Tom Hanks, the thriller remake The Taking Of Pelham 123 with Denzel Washington and John Travolta, Roland Emmerich's 2012 and Tom Tykwer's The International starring Clive Owen and Naomi Watts that will open the 59th Berlinale on February 5.
