Hot on the heels of box office breakouts Backrooms and Obsession, CAA and private equity firm TPG’s investment vehicle Integrated Media Company (IMC) have launched the $250m holding company Compound Creative Holdings dedicated to growing a creator economy business.

The venture will acquire, operate, and grow a portfolio of businesses at a time when Hollywood is scrambling to partner with creators in the wake of Curry Barker (Obsession), Kane Parsons (Backrooms) and Markiplier (Iron Lung) storming the charts with their features.

Tucker Brown, who has worked as a strategic advisor within the $250bn creator economy and has served more than 15 years advising entertainment, sports, and media companies at CAA Evolution, will lead Compound as managing partner.

An executive committee comprising CAA leadership Kevin Huvane, Jim Burtson, and Maya Ho and IMC leadership Jon Miller, Ori Winitzer, and Ben Loffredo will oversee the venture.

Compound will operate independently from and is designed to build CAA’s existing creator economy business, CAA Creators, which represents over 300 global clients and will continue under CAA senior leader Brent Weinstein. CAA Creators agent Andrew Graham and CAA strategic development executive Adam Goldstein will serve as advisors to Compound.

Both CAA and IMC will leverage the combined resources of their respective platforms to support Compound.

“Creators are no longer just talent, they are enterprise builders and increasingly operate with the scale and sophistication of established media companies,” Brown said. “Our goal is to provide the appropriate capital architecture and operational support necessary to help these businesses grow sustainably and capture lasting value.”

Kirkland & Ellis LLP served as legal counsel to CAA, and CAA Evolution served as financial advisor. Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP served as legal counsel to IMC.
