David Glasser has left Syndicate Films International to join The Weinstein Company (TWC) as president of international, filling the slot vacated by Glen Basner who departed the company recently after a three-year stint.

Glasser joins and will oversee the recently promoted duo of Michael Rothstein, executive vice president of international sales and distribution, and Jonathan Kier, senior vice president of international sales and distribution.

He will remain in Los Angeles and reports directly to Bob and Harvey Weinstein and TWC COO Lee Solomon. He will also be charged with expanding the company's home video and television operations.

'David is one of the true superstars of foreign sales,' Harvey Weinstein said. 'There is no one more capable of putting movies together than he. His track record at the Yari Film Group was exceptional. And with the increase in prominence of Michael Rothstein and Jonathan Kier, David will create a powerhouse for TWC. In my opinion, he's one of the top five in the world.'

'Adding David to the team will immediately strengthen our international department,' Solomon added. 'He's an incomparable salesman with an extensive knowledge of the international marketplace and will complement our ever-growing group of executives helping to shape TWC's future.'

'Bob and Harvey have built an exceptional company in just under three years and with their fantastic slate of upcoming films, this was an opportunity for me to build on the relationships I have while expanding my role in the international marketplace, and one that I couldn't pass up,' Glasser said. 'I'm looking forward to working with the Weinsteins and with the impressive group of executives in the international department and expanding TWC's global operations.'

'This is a great opportunity for David and he moves on with my blessing and full support,' Bob Yari said. 'He will be missed by his YFG family.'

Prior to joining TWC, Glasser served as chief creative officer of Yari Film Group and president of its Los Angeles-based sales arm Syndicate Films International.

At Yari Film Group he played a key role in international sales on Hostage, Crash, The Hoax, Prime, The Illusionist and The Painted Veil, among others.

Glasser entered the foreign sales business representing small features and in 1993 he founded Cutting Edge Entertainment, which produced and distributed more than 20 films.
