The second English-language project by Spanish director Alex de la Iglesia, The Oxford Murders, has started shooting on location in London and Oxford for nine weeks.

The serial killer thriller is produced by Tornasol Films, Estudios Picasso, Oxford Crimes, and La Fabrique de Films. The UK producer is Kevin Loader, who recently made Venus and The History Boys. The companies Telecinco, Canal+France and Canal+Spain, and Eurimages will be financing the project.

The film is based on a novel by Argentinian writer Guillermo Martine. De La Iglesia's previous work includes Crimen Ferpecto and 800 Bullets.

The cast features Elijah Wood, John Hurt, Leonor Watling and Dominique Pinon.

The script for The Oxford Murders is a collaboration between de la Iglesia and his long-time co-writer Jorge Guerricaechevarria.The film focuses on the mathematics department of Oxford university, and the investigations of a professor and his student into a series of murders in the city that are linked with a complex code.
