DGA announces 2011 doc feature nominees

A prestigious roster includes Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky, Martin Scorsese and James Marsh. The winner will be announced at the 64th Annual DGA awards dinner on Jan 28 in Los Angeles.

The nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentary for 2011 are listed below in alphabetical order:

Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofky, Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory;

Steve James, The Interrupters (pictured);

James Marsh, Project Nim;

Richard Press, Bill Cunningham New York; and

Martin Scorsese, George Harrison: Living In The Material World.

“The remarkable documentaries made by this year’s nominees take audiences on a journey, whether casting light on injustice or exploring the human condition in all of its nuance, cruelty, creativity and triumph,” DGA president Taylor Hackford said. 

“Our nominees represent the best in documentary filmmaking and I congratulate each of them on a job well done.”
