English-language family drama stars Charlotte Gainsbourg with Marton Csokas and Aden Young.

Juile Bertucelli’s The Tree has been selected to close the Cannes Film Festival on May 23, organizers announced Thursday. The English-language film was shot on location in Australia and stars last year’s best actress winner Charlotte Gainsbourg with Marton Csokas and Aden Young.

The film is an adaptation of Judy Pascoe’s novel Our Father Who Art In The Tree, about a tree that becomes a family’s centre after the father’s sudden death. Le Pacte will release the film in France. Australia’s Taylor Media co-produced with France’s Les Films du Poisson while Memento Films International is handling world sales.

This is Bertucelli’s second feature after the very well-received Since Otar Left in 2003.
