Tim Burton’s stop-motion feature version of his 1984 short will open the event in Austin, Texas, ahead of the US release through Buena Vista on Oct 5.
Frankenweenie centres on a young boy who uses science to revive his beloved dog and invites unintended consequences. The feature was shot in black-and-white and rendered in 3D.
Catherine O’Hara, Martin Short, Martin Landau, Charlie Tahan, Atticus Shaffer, Robert Capron, Conchata Ferrell and Winona Ryder provide the voice talent.
Burton directed from a screenplay by John August based on Burton’s original idea. Burton produced with Allison Abbate.
“Tim Burton stands as a titan of modern genre cinema,” Fantastic Fest co-founder and creative director Tim League said. “To world premiere the feature adaptation of his early beloved short is a huge honour for me personally and for the festival in general.”
