New York-based Killer Films has boardedBetsy And The Emperorbased on Napoleon’s final years in exile, which Patrice Chereau had previously been lined up to direct for AzorFilms and BackUp Films.

John Curran will direct and Al Pacino will star in the film, which takes its place alongside the previously announced William The Conqueror on the initial roster of bigger budget fare that Killer will make since venture capital firm GC Corp acquired a 50% equity stake late last year.

GC Corp will finance the project after it acquired rights to Staton Rabin’s 2004 children’s book chronicling the humbled French leader’s relationship with a 14-year-old British girl during his final years on the island of Saint Helena.

Brian Edgar, who has been collaborating with Killer and GC Corp on William The Conqueror, will adapt the screenplay.

Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler are producing with original producers Zvi Howard Rosenman, Colleen Camp and Fonda Snyder. John Wells will serve as executive producer with GC Corp co-chief Adi Cohen.

Killer, Curran and Pacino are all represented by CAA. Rosenman, Snyder and Rabin are represented by Lynn Pleshette for Betsy And The Emperor, and Camp is also handled by The Gersh Agency.
