Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired US rights for Claude Lelouch's new thriller Roman De Gare, which premiered in Cannes and opened in August in France.

Dominique Pinon and Fanny Ardant star in the story of a popular novelist who does unusual research to find new characters.

Lelouch wrote, directed and produced. Jean Paul de Vidas executive produced.

Vice president of acquisitions Peter Goldwyn and manager of acquisitions Shane Starr negotiated the deal with Jean-Paul De Vidas on behalf of Les Films 13.
Goldwyn plans a US release in the first quarter of 2008.

'We feel privileged to work with Claude on such a fantastic, exciting and explosive title. He is a film legend for whom we have tremendous respect and admiration. We very much look forward to bringing Roman De Gare to American audiences after the film received such a terrific response in France,' said Meyer Gottlieb, president of Samuel Goldwyn Films.

Lelouch added: 'I feel that Roman De Gare is perhaps my best picture, so, I could not be more thrilled that Samuel Goldwyn Films' is releasing it in the US. It's a wonderful deluxe boutique shop for quality movies and I couldn't think of a better distribution team.'
