Penelope Cruz will receive a Gotham Award Tribute at the 18th Annual Gotham Awards in New York on Dec 2.

Cruz currently stars in Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona, released in North American through The Weinstein Company, and Isabel Coixet's Elegy, which is being handled by Samuel Goldwyn Films.

The Spanish actress earned an Oscar nomination for Pedro Almodovar's Volver in 2007 and her credits include Almodovar's Live Flesh, All About My Mother and the upcoming Broken Embraces, as well as All The Pretty Horses, Blow and Vanilla Sky.

'Penelope's body of work embodies what is exciting and vibrant about film-making today, in particular independent filmmaking,' IFP executive director Michelle Byrd said. 'Her performances working with internationally acclaimed directors and her choice of roles are dynamic, vivacious and varied.'

Additional Tribute recipients will be announced next week. Nominees for the 18th Annual Gotham Awards will be announced on Oct20 and the winners will be announced on Dec 2.
