Magnolia Pictures has acquired worldwide rights to Conor McPherson’s The Eclipse.

The film, which had its world premiere at Tribeca earlier this month, stars Ciaran Hinds, who was named best actor in the festival’s awards.

The feature, which also Iben Hjejle and Aidan Quinn, tells the story of widower who is haunted by nightmares as he tries to take care of his two young children. It is produced by Rob Walpole and Rebecca O’Flanagan from Treasure Entertainment.

Eamonn Bowles, Magnolia president, said: “With The Eclipse, Conor McPherson’s infinite talent as a playwright has been matched by his film-making skill.”

Bowles, senior vice president Tom Quinn and head of international sales Laird Adamson negotiated the deal with Josh Braun of Submarine.
