Fresh off his number one box office hit, Jackass - The Movie, Johnny Knoxville has signed to the comedy, Grand Theft Parsons.

Inspired by a true story, the MTV comedy daredevil will play road manager Phil Kaufman, who steals the body of Gram Parsons and races down to the Joshua Tree to burn it as part of pact he made with the musician Gram. The film also stars Christina Applegate and is to be directed by David Caffrey.

Frank Mannion of Swipe Films is producing, with UK distributor by Helkon SK co-producing. Shooting is scheduled before the end of the year in Los Angeles, with Michael Shannon, Marley Shelton and Robert Forster also starring.

Executive producers and financiers include Matt Candel, Brad Zipper and Jesse Itzler of Morty-Stevie G Productions and Zygi Kamasa and Simon Franks of Helkon.

Knoxville, whose real name is Philip John Clapp, is represented by Steve Alexander of CAA and managed by Brad Schenck of The Firm and attorney, Warren Dern. Applegate and Caffrey are also represented by CAA.
