Jorge Alvarez, president of the National Film Institute (INCAA), whichruns the Mar del Plata Film Festival in Argentina, has announced that the INCAA is planning to movethe festival dates from March to Nov or Dec as of next year.

INCAA has approached the International Federation of Film ProducersAssociations (FIAPF), the regulator of A-level international filmfestivals, to endorse the date change. 'Our next edition will probably run in December 2008', Alvarezsaid.

Argentina has two key film festivals: Mar del Plata and Buenos Aires (BAFICI), which runs every April.

Meanwhile veteran director and screenwriter Jose Martinez Suarez has been appointed new president of Mar del Plata. He will replace another local film-maker, Miguel Pereira, who finished his 5-year contract last April.

At 81, Martinez Suarez is still working and teaching hundreds of film students. His best known films are El Crack (1960), Dar La Cara (Responsibility, 1962), Los Chantas (1975), Los Muchachos De Antes No Usaban Arsenico (Yesterday's Guys Used No Arsenic, 1976) and Noches Sin Lunas Ni Soles (Nights Without Moons and Suns, 1984).

A retrospective of Martinez Suarez's films was shown at last year's edition of the festival; he also served on the official jury in 1999.
