Hong Kong-based Media Asia Distribution is bulking up its Cannes slate with a new project from hotHong Kong action director Dante Lam and Chinese director Ning Hao’s smash hit comedy CrazyRacer.

Lam, who is much in demand following his recent action thrillers Beast Stalker and The Sniper, is directing another action title Out Of Leash, starring Leon Lai and Richie Jen, for Media Asia.

The film, which starts shooting this summer, is about a cop who is forced to team up with a rogue police informant when a prostitute is murdered.

Media Asia has also picked up international rights to Crazy Racer, produced by China Film Group and Warner China Film, which grossed more than $14.6m (RMB100m) in mainland China last year.

Starring Huang Bo and Jack Kao, the film is a fast-paced comedy involving a professional cyclist who is banned for doping, a gang of drug smugglers and an unscrupulous sponsor who tries to kill his wife.

Media Asia is also handling Asian territories on Johnnie To’s Vengeance, starring Johnny Hallyday and Sylvie Testud, which has been selected for Cannes competition. Paris-based Kinology is handling all other territories on the film which Media Asia co-produced with France’s ARP.

The Hong Kong company is also sharing sales duties with China Film and Stellar Megamedia on Lu Chuan’s City Of Life And Death, which grossed more than $10m on its opening in mainland China last weekend (April 22-26).
