Doreen Boonekamp, currently the festival director at the Netherlands Film Festival, has been appointed as the new head of the region’s film fund.

Boonekamp, who will take over in the autumn, replaces Toine Berbers who is stepping down as the director of the Netherland Film Fund in July.

She joins the fund, which invests $48.5m (Euros 37m) a year in the Dutch film industry, as it undergoes a major restructure. It is understood that this will see increased power handed to the director of the fund, with the board becoming less involved.

The appointment was confirmed by the Dutch Culture Ministry late last week. It has also announced that Gerlach Cerfontaine, chief executive of Schiphol Group, is to take over from Hans Van Beers as President of the fund’s board.
