Jung appointed as head of CJ E&M’s film division

Korean giant CJ E&M Corporation has appointed former Showbox/Mediaplex executive Tae-sung Jung as head of the film division.

CJ E&M’s film division was previously separated into domestic and international units, but they have now been merged into one entity, overseen by Jung.

In addition, Kye-hong Kim has been appointed as head of CJ E&M’s broadcasting division.

Sung-su Kim, CEO of CJ E&M Corp, will now focus on executing global strategy and maximising the synergies of the merged CJ E&M (before the merger early last year, CJ was separated into entertainment and media groups). Kim was previously head of the broadcasting division.

“This new appointment is to reinforce the leadership based on the expertise of each division, to upgrade actual competence to compete in the globally competitive circumstances, and to accelerate on creating synergy,” CJ E&M said in a statement.

The statement continued: “CJ E&M will accelerate the growth as Asia’s No. 1 contents group by developing original contents which can cross over internationally and by the organisational management that empowers efficiency among divisions.”

Jung has previously worked in senior roles at the Busan International Film Festival, Genesis Pictures and Showbox/Mediaplex, and served as executive producer on hits such as 200 Pounds Beauty, Taegugki and The Host.

Katherine Kim, who was previously CJ E&M’s head of film, is expected to take up a consultancy role with the company.
