Malaysia changes dates of new market to March 2013
The Malaysian government has pushed back the dates of its planned film, TV and related contents market from November to March next year.
The Kuala Lumpur Communications and Creative Industry Mart (KLCCIM) will take place March 26-29, shortly after Filmart in Hong Kong (March 18-21). The new event aims to attract around 200 sales companies and 300 buyers and will also feature a projects market, conference, international masterclass and networking events.
It’s expected that the market will be held concurrently with the International Film Festival of Malaysia, which was also originally scheduled to be held in November. The festival is expected to screen 50-60 films with a focus on Asian and ASEAN talent.
The date change was announced by Dato’ Sri Kamaruddin Siaraf, secretary general of Malaysia’s Ministry of Information, Communications & Culture [pictured], at the MIPCOM programming market.
Malaysia is also gearing up for the opening of $120m studio complex Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia, which is scheduled to open its doors next year in Iskandar in south Malaysia. The studio is a joint venture between the UK’s Pinewood Shepperton and the Malaysian government’s investment arm, Khazanah Holdings
