UPDATE: The Dark Knight Rises opened on $160.9m according to results reported by Warner Bros on Monday (23), one day later than usual due to the tragedy at a midnight screening of the film in Colorado last Friday.

This ranks as the third biggest industry launch of all time behind The Avengers on $207.4m and the Harry Potter finale on $169.2m. Christian Bale stars alongside Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway and Marion Cotillard.

Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures’ Batman epic knocked Fox’s Ice Age: Continental Drift off its perch. The animation has amassed $88.8m after two weekends, while Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man stands at $228.6m after three and Universal’s Ted $180.4 after four.

Magic Mike, distributed through Warner Bros in North America and a success story for international sales agent FilmNation, crossed $100m in its fourth weekend in release.

Magnolia Pictures opened its Sundance pick-up The Queen Of Versailles on $51,326 from three venues.

Next weekend’s wide releases are Summit Entertainment’s Step Up Revolution and Fox comedy The Watch with Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Johan Hill and Richard Ayoade.
