Chris Martin, the lead singer of British band Coldplay, is set to do battle with a giant squirrel in a short film to be released theatrically next week.

The film, in which Martin is dressed as a superhero, will be released in Odeon Cinemas on July 22 and will be shown before Bruno and The Proposal. It will also be released online and through mobile platform Babelgum on July 20.

It has been directed by Shynola, an animation collective that has made music videos for bands including Radiohead and Blur. The film will show the battle in a world draw in chalk. The film will be used as the video for the band’s new single, Strawberry Swing, due to be released on September 16.

The band have a history of using new technology to promote their music. In 2005, Coldplay supported the launch of the X&Y album through a Bluetooth campaign that sent exclusive content, including trailers and album tracks, through the screens at London mainline train stations.
