Oscilloscope Laboratories will re-release to Jules Dassin’s little-known classic The Law (La Loi) after picking up North American rights.

The company plans to roll out the film later this year to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its original release.

The film was previously released in the US as Where The Hot Wind Blows and stars Gina Lollobrigida, Marcello Mastroianni, Yves Montand, Melina Mercouri, and Pierre Brasseur in the tale of a housekeeper who uses the town game to secure the dowry to marry the man of her dreams.

The re-release will utilise newly-struck 35mm prints from the original archival film elements and boasts a brand new English language subtitle translation. A DVD release will follow in 2010. Yohann Comte from Roissy Films brokered the deal with David Fenkel and Dan Berger for Oscilloscope.
