Russian actor Konstantin Lavronenko, who played the fatherin Andrei Zvyagintsev's award-winning The Return, has been cast to play the lead in Polish filmmakerPiotr Trzaskalski's next feature The Master.

Trzaskalski's last film Eddie (Edi) registered over 400,000 admissions in Poland and wasthe official Polish submission for the Oscars in 2002 as well as winningnumerous prizes at home and abroad.

Described as "a road movie with an open form", TheMaster tells the story of a circus artistwho has mastered a knife-throwing act and is heading for Paris. On his way hemeets a young man and two girls. The young man becomes his apprentice and oneof the girls his lover. Strong bonds develop between the three of them, thegirl gets pregnant, but nothing can stop the Master from continuing on hisjourney.

Ewa Puszczynska of the film's Lodz-based production companyOpus Film told ScreenDaily.com thatBerlin-based Peter Rommel Productions has come onboard the project which willcommence principal photography in Poland in August.
